DTV Deadline is TODAY

Posted on 11:06 am by Kenny Altman | Permalink | Comments (0)

The DTV Transition is today, are you prepared?

There are three options you can choose from to become prepared for the transition:

1. Connect your analog TV to a digital-to-analog converter box. DTV converter boxes are in stores and have a one-time cost of $40-$70.

2. Buy a digital television (a TV with a built-in digital tuner). Please note: You do not need a High Definition TV (HDTV) to watch digital broadcast television. You only need a digital TV.

3. Subscribe to a paid TV service. If you’re TV set receives local broadcast stations through a paid provider such as cable or satellite, it is already prepared for the DTV transition. Cable companies are not required to transition or switch any of their channels to digital.

Some of the public benefits of the DTV transition are:

·Freeing up parts of the broadcast spectrum for public safety communications
·Allowing some of the spectrum to be auctioned to companies that will be able to provide consumers with more advanced wireless services
·Allowing stations to offer improved picture and surround sound
·Expanding programming choices for viewers. For example, a broadcaster will be able to offer multiple digital programs simultaneously
·Providing interactive video and data services that are not possible with analog technology
